Accessibility Statement
Our aim
Everyone should be able to use this website, whatever device, connection or ability they have. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we have done
- The pages use clear headings, one main heading per page, and landmarks that screen readers can jump between.
- Everything works with the keyboard. The focus is always visible, and a “Skip to content” link is the first stop on every page.
- Text and background colours are chosen for good contrast, in the light and in the dark theme.
- The layout adapts to small screens and to text enlarged up to 200 percent.
- Animations are short and subtle. If your device is set to reduce motion, they are switched off.
- All content is readable without JavaScript and on slow connections. The pages are small and load quickly.
- Images that carry meaning have a text alternative. Form fields have visible labels.
How we test
On 5 October 2026 we tested thirteen page types with the automated tool axe-core (version 4.13.0), in the light and the dark theme, at desktop and at phone width. The tool found no violations of the WCAG 2.2 rules for levels A and AA.
On 9 October 2026 we repeated the test with the same tool on 21 pages, including the new program pages, again in both themes and at both widths. Again, the tool found no violations.
Automated tools find only part of all barriers. A test with a screen reader and with keyboard-only navigation by a person is still to be done. Until then, we are especially grateful if you tell us about any barrier you meet.
Known limitations
- The website is currently available in English only. German and Persian versions are planned.
- Articles under “In the media” are on other websites. We cannot influence their accessibility.
- The short videos on our event pages have no captions yet.
Tell us about a barrier
If something on this website does not work for you, please write to contact@hnwomen.org. Tell us which page you were on and what you were trying to do. We will fix the problem or send you the information in another form.
