Joining the Humanity Network for Women English course has been one of the most meaningful learning experiences in my educational life. Before joining the class, I was always looking for such an opportunity to learn English. It was not my first time studying English because I had studied and graduated years before. However, at that time, my main goal was only to graduate and receive a degree, not to truly learn the language deeply. Because of lack of practice and different life circumstances, I had forgotten almost everything I had learned before. This became one of my biggest regrets because I had spent a lot of time, effort, and money on my previous studies.
One day, I saw a post on Instagram about a free English course with an experienced teacher. I felt that it was a big opportunity for me, so I joined the class immediately. I believe social media played an important role in helping me find this course because otherwise I would not have known about it.
At first, when I started the class, I felt shy and weak in speaking. I was not confident when expressing my ideas in English. However, as time passed, I slowly gained more confidence. Even when I made mistakes or faced difficulties, I continued speaking and participating in the class. As we say in Persian, “Not knowing is not bad, but not learning is bad.” This idea encouraged me to continue trying without fear.
During this course, I learned many useful things from the New Total English Intermediate book. One of the most important improvements for me was grammar. Since childhood, I always believed that I was weak in grammar, but in this class I realized that the problem was not my ability, but my learning method. Before, I tried to memorize every grammatical rule perfectly, and this made grammar feel difficult and stressful. In this course, I learned that understanding the usage and practicing regularly are more important than memorizing. This new method helped me improve my grammar step by step.
Vocabulary was another challenge for me. I already knew many English words, but I did not know how or where to use them correctly. I also realized that many of the words I used were very basic and below my level. Through this course and the New Total English Intermediate book, I learned more useful words and phrases that helped me express myself better.
Another important thing I learned was about speaking skills. I always wondered why I could understand reading and listening materials but still struggled when it was time to speak. Through this class, I realized that speaking needs continuous practice and focus. I understood that my input skills, such as reading and listening, were stronger than my output skills, especially speaking. This understanding helped me work more on improving my communication skills.
At this stage, I would like to sincerely appreciate our teacher, Sir […], for his efforts, kindness, and patience. Despite his busy schedule and responsibilities, he devoted his time and energy to teaching us. The atmosphere of our class was friendly, supportive, and encouraging. I always felt comfortable participating and learning in the classroom. Our classmates also supported and encouraged each other, which made the learning environment even better.
Finishing this course was not easy for me. As a mother of two children and a wife, I have many responsibilities at home. I have to take care of my children and manage household chores every day. Being a mother is a full-time job without breaks or days off. Sometimes balancing family responsibilities and studying was very challenging, but I tried my best to continue learning. I am also thankful to our teacher for always understanding my situation and treating me with kindness and patience.
Finally, I would like to thank our teacher and Humanity Network for Women for giving Afghan women this valuable opportunity to learn and improve themselves. This course helped me improve not only my English skills but also my confidence and motivation. I hope to continue learning English in the future and use this knowledge to build a better future for myself and my family.
